Introducing Coach Sloan Setiadikurnia, a highly skilled chess player and a passionate coach with over eight years of experience coaching scholastic chess. Despite starting his journey in chess at 16, Coach Sloan understands the struggles of being a beginner and believes in making the learning process exciting and engaging. He shares his fun stories and experiences during lessons to help improve his students' skills while keeping them motivated and interested in the game.
As the Head Chess Coach at Chess4Life in Redmond, WA, Coach Sloan has trained several state and national champions and top finishers. He has also mentored other chess coaches in lesson planning and classroom management while being part of the Curriculum Development Team. He was responsible for finding new methods and exercises to enhance the Rook level of the Chess4life curriculum.
Coach Sloan's academic background includes a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering with a Biochemical Engineering Emphasis from the University of Southern California. He also attended Issaquah High School. His educational and professional experiences have provided him with a broad range of skills and a unique perspective, which he brings to his coaching style.
